FloraFemme - A Probiotic Supplement for BV and Vaginal Yeast Infections

FloraFemme is a multi-species probiotic supplement used for bacterial vaginosis (BV) and vaginal yeast infections. Unlike oral probiotic supplements that you swallow, this probiotic supplement is meant to be inserted directly into the vaginal as a suppository for maximum delivery and contact.

FloraFemme is a Women's Vaginal Suppository Probiotic supplement

FloraFemme contains more than 57 billion CFUs (Colony-Forming Units) per capsule of 11 species of probiotics:

  1. Lactobacillus rhamnosus
  2. Lactobacillus plantarum
  3. Lactobacillus reuteri
  4. Lactobacillus paracasei
  5. Lactobacillus bulgaricus
  6. Lactobacillus salivarius
  7. Lactobacillus brevis
  8. Lactobacillus acidophilus
  9. Lactobacillus casei
  10. Bifidobacterium longum
  11. Bifidobacterium lactis

The patent is pending on this product, so the manufacturer told me that they cannot release the details of the strains or the methodology is making the supplement. However, it is stated on the website that the facility where the supplement is made is in "one of the country's top-rated nutraceutical manufacturers", which is certified GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), QAI (Quality Assurance Institute-Certified Organic) and TGA (Australia's FDA equivalent).

This supplement is also completely made in the USA.

Additionally, this product:

  • Is non-dairy, gluten-free, wheat-free, corn-free, soy-free and non-GMO (Previously the product was not totally dairy-free, but the new formulation is dairy-free according to the correspondence with the manufacturer)
  • Is room temperature (70ºF) stable for two years (Although I almost always advocate storing probiotics in the refrigerator to maintain the maximum number of viable microbes.)
  • Is freeze-dried and packed with nitrogen flushing
  • Has human-derived strains of some of the microbes
  • Is produced by a leading US lab which received the Frost & Sullivan Award for probiotic culture
  • Insures that every batch's quality exceeds the label guarantee.
  • Is independently tested by Silliker Laboratories (This helps insure that what is supposed to be in the product is in the product, and what isn't, hopefully isn't.)
  • Is housed in a vegetarian capsule
  • Contains no flow agents, no fragrances, no preservatives
  • Contains "a bit of aloe" according to conversations with the manufacturer

How Do You Use FloraFemme?

At the first sign of unpleasant odor, itching or discharge, insert one (1) capsule far up in the vagina for 6 consecutive nights, at bedtime. All 6 capsules, one-per-bedtime, must be used for maximum benefit.

It is possible and recommended that another course be used for stubborn conditions. The last thing you want to do is stop using probiotics prematurely before pathogenic microbes are under control by your body! (The same is true for oral probiotics, too!)

It is also recommended by the manufacturer that  you use 1 - 2 capsules each month, right after your period or as-needed. Inserting capsules right after your period, when your vaginal pH is higher, will help to lower the pH and keep the populations of beneficial bacteria in control.
